Pentecost Sunday

Equipped for A Mission

When we give a person a task, we need to equip the person with the necessary authority and tools to do the job.

At His baptism Jesus was equipped with the Holy Spirit for His mission to “save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)

“As Jesus came up out of the water, He saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on Him like a dove.” (Mark 1:10)

“The spirit then compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness.” (Mark 1:12)

Where Jesus planned out how “to save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)

At Pentecost the infant Church was equipped with the Holy Spirit to “Go and make disciples of all the Nations.” (Matthew 28:19)

“Then what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in new languages as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” (Acts 2: 3-4)

“And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done.” (Acts 2:11)

And they said to the apostles “Brothers what should we do? “ (Acts 2:37)

Peter replied “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the name Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:88)

At our baptism and confirmation, we too are equipped with Holy Spirit to prosper and succeed in all we do to live “A rich and satisfying life.” (John 10:10)

At Our Morning Prayer

Come Holy Spirit, I need you, To equip me, with your gifts and power, To prosper and succeed in all I do today.

Glory be to the Father,  And to the Son, And to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginningIs nowAnd ever shall be, World without End.  Amen.
